MEXICO CITY — The strongest hurricane to ever assault the Western Hemisphere slammed into Mexico’s southwest Pacific Coast on Friday evening, transforming hotels into makeshift shelters, shuttering schools, closing airports and sending inhabitants racing to bus stations to flee inland.

The storm, named Hurricane Patricia, was packing winds of about 165 miles per hour as it struck land, having slowed considerably from earlier speeds of about 200 miles per hour as it spun toward a coastline dotted with tiny fishing villages and five-star resorts in cities like Puerto Vallarta.

Earlier this week, Terry Collins said that he thought Jacob deGrom’s last two playoff starts were the most impressive because the right-hander clearly did not have his best stuff and he had to grind out innings. That is also what has the Mets a little worried. Concerned about deGrom getting fatigued, the Mets are eyeing starting Matt Harvey in Game 1 of the World Series.

“The one thing we’re looking at with Jake is the last couple times out he looks like he could use some time,” the Mets manager said Friday after a voluntary team workout at Citi Field. “He’s been erratic with his fatigue.

“It could be anybody. Is it going to benefit us to start him and use him three times? Look, you gotta put them in situations where they’re going to have more success,” Collins continued, “I’m not sure where we’re going to go just yet, but I like our rotation no matter who’s out there.”

Two more Cosby accusers go public as total nears 60

Lawyer Gloria Allred's unrelenting pursuit of Bill Cosby produced two more accusers Friday, bring the total number of women who have publicly claimed Cosby drugged and/or sexually assaulted them in decades past to nearly 60.

Allred, who represents about half of the Cosby accusers, introduced Donna Barrett and Dottye (no last name was given) at a press conference in New York.
